Developed more than 12 years ago by the  Hartford Business  Journal and the Best Companies Group, a third-party research firm that manages similar programs all over the country, the recognition requires companies to go through a workplace assessment process, including employee surveys and a full inventory of company benefits, policies, and offerings.

The comprehensive review allowed for an in-depth analysis of each company’s strengths and weaknesses and ultimately determined the companies most deserving to make the list.
